Safety Guidelines — CarpoolMU
Plain-language rules the whole community rides by. (Kreol and French versions coming.)
Before the ride
- Check the profile. Prefer users with completed rides and good ratings. New users aren't necessarily unsafe — but be extra careful.
- Keep chat in the app until you're comfortable. Your phone number stays private that way.
- Agree a public pickup point — a bus stop, petrol station, or mall. Never your exact home address.
- Tell someone. Let a person you trust know the trip, the time, and the driver's plate number. (A one-tap Share my trip live link is coming soon.)
- Women-only option: passengers and drivers can limit matches to women — use it if it makes you more comfortable.
At pickup
- Match the car to the listing: the plate number, make, and colour are shown in the app once you're accepted. If they don't match — don't get in, and report it.
- Drivers: check your passenger matches their profile before setting off.
During the ride
- Wear your seat belt — it's the law.
- If you ever feel unsafe: ask to stop in a public place. In an emergency call 999 or 112. (In-app live location sharing and an SOS button are coming in a future update.)
After the ride
- Rate honestly. Ratings are what keep the community safe for the next person.
- Report problems — dangerous driving, harassment, anything that feels off. Reports are confidential; the reported user never sees who reported them.
Zero tolerance
Harassment, discrimination, violence, driving under the influence, fake profiles, and commercial taxi operation all lead to permanent bans — and where the law is broken, cooperation with the police.
